“Klopp Would Make Him Smile…” Johnson Believes Heavily Criticised Chelsea Star Could Thrive At Liverpool

Ex-Liverpool and Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson thinks Timo Werner would be transformed if he was being coached by Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds did pursue the German international before he made the £47.5m transfer to Stamford Bridge two years ago. However, the striker has struggled for confidence during his time in England.

Despite Werner’s struggles, Johnson says he wouldn’t be shocked if Klopp was still interested in recruiting the 26-year-old:

“He’s got a lot to offer. Just at Chelsea, from day one, he’s looked super, super low on confidence. Maybe someone like Klopp would make him smile and enjoy his football. If that was the case then I think he’s got a lot to offer. And the way that Liverpool play then he’s going to get a lot of goalscoring opportunities, he’s going to be fast on the break, so, yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me. I think a lot of people will be shocked but I don’t think it would actually surprise me. If Klopp can get him happy and smiling and confident then you’re going to have a good player on your hands.”

While Werner is believed to be seeking a move away from London this summer, the chances of Liverpool tabling a bid are very low indeed. Even following Sadio Mane’s departure, the Merseyside club have plenty of forward options available to them.

The signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have added greater firepower to the frontline, which already possesses the likes of Mo Salah, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. It’s very hard to see where Werner would fit in at the Reds.
