Liverpool will now have to pay €90m (£77m) if they want to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak, according to reports in Spain.
The 21-year-old, who starred for Sweden at the European Championships, has signed a new contract which has seen his release clause increase from €70m (£60m) to €90m (£77m).
Isak was named La Liga’s Young Player of the Year for his performances last season. He scored 17 league goals, grabbing the attention of Premier League scouts in the process.
It is believed the Reds, Arsenal and Chelsea had all registered an interest in the Swedish international recently but Sociedad are hoping that the higher buyout fee will ward off any potential suitors.
£77m is a figure that will likely put Liverpool off from making a bid this summer. While manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen the forward line, any move is dependent on the Merseyside club raising funds through player sales.
