Liverpool, Chelsea And United All Circle As 21 Year Old Defender’s 39M Release Clause Is Revealed

RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate has a release clause worth €45m (£39m), according to Sport Bild. The German magazine believes that the Frenchman’s availability could attract interest from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

All three Premier League teams missed out on Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich so it appears that their attention has turned to his Leipzig teammate.

Konate has had to deal with injury problems this season, which has limited him to just 14 appearances in all competitions, but the 21-year-old has been a regular starter when fit.

It’s unlikely that Leipzig would be open to letting him go for below his release clause, though, considering they are about to sell Upamecano, so Liverpool would need to pay a significant fee to secure his services.

A lot will also depend on the performances of Ozan Kabak. The Reds do have the option to sign the Turkish international for £18m in the summer but he struggled, once again, in the defeat to Everton at the weekend.
