Liverpool are in talks with the representatives of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Frenchman has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks, but it is the first time that the Reds have been mentioned as a serious contender for the centre-back.
MEN claims that Jurgen Klopp’s side are among the teams who are “holding dialogue” with Varane’s agents, with the 28-year-old expected to leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
The centre-half is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract and, to prevent him from leaving for nothing next year, Real are expected to sell the France international to the highest bidder.
Currently, the La Liga champions are said to be demanding £60m for Varane, although there have been some reports in Spain that he could be offloaded for around £43m. We shall see if Liverpool make a move for the defender in the coming weeks.
