Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai are “close” to returning from injury.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Bournemouth, Klopp said the trio won’t be in the matchday squad this weekend but they could be back to face Fulham next Wednesday:

“After Bournemouth, maybe for Fulham, we will see how the boys do. But they are all close. Trent close, Dom close, Robbo close. All going in the right direction, that’s all positive, but for the weekend’s game, no.”

Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined since the win over Arsenal in the FA Cup due to a hamstring problem. Szoboszlai picked up a similar injury against Newcastle on New Year’s Day.

Robertson, meanwhile, hasn’t been seen in action for months, having dislocated his shoulder back in October playing for Scotland in a European Championship qualifier versus Spain.

It’s a big boost for Liverpool ahead of some key fixtures

Even if not all three players are fit enough to start the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Fulham, they should be available for some big games coming up in the Premier League.

The Reds take on Chelsea at Anfield at the end of the month (after the cup tie versus Norwich City). Klopp’s men then face title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates on February 4th.

It’s not all good news on the injury front for Liverpool

Mo Salah picked up what looked like a hamstring injury in Egypt’s 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday night. Klopp has confirmed that he has spoken to the winger but a more detailed assessment needs to be made before an estimated return date can be given.

As he is away with his country for the African Cup of Nations, he wasn’t expected to play for the Reds again until next month anyway but it is still a blow for the Merseysiders.
