Liverpool are in danger of missing out on a potential successor for Jurgen Klopp as manager.
Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann is third or fourth favourite to take the Reds hot seat, depending on the bookmaker. However, writing in his Daily Briefing column, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Borussia Dortmund are keen on appointing him as head coach:
“There is interest from Borussia Dortmund. My information is that they want to replace [Edin] Terzic at the end of the season. It’s a really concrete possibility for Terzic to go and leave the club at the end of the season.”
“So, Dortmund are looking at managers and Naglesmann is one of them, but let’s see if there is some other possibility. For sure, Nagelsmann will be ready to sign before the Euros.”
Liverpool are now in a position to make a decision on Klopp’s replacement
It is believed that the Reds wanted a new sporting director in place before the end of March before making any decision on the next manager.
Michael Edwards may have not been installed in that specific position but he is expected to oversee the hiring of Klopp’s successor and that process can now get underway in earnest.
Will Nagelsmann be in contention for the job?
The German has considered joining a Premier League club before, having reportedly had an interview with Chelsea last year, before withdrawing his interest.
As Romano points out, Nagelsmann is keen to have his future sorted before the European Championships so we shall see if Liverpool do decide to make an approach. Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso remains the standout favourite to be appointed but other managers are also likely to be consulted.
