Ex-Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann is backing Jurgen Klopp’s side to finish top of the table.

While reigning champions City will leapfrog the Reds if they win their game in hand, Hamann says that the Merseyside club still have their fate in their own hands. He feels that if they beat Guardiola’s men at Anfield, they will lift the title:

“I do think they’re going to win the league this year. They play City at home. They’ve got quite a good record at home against City. If they beat them, they’re ahead of them. I think they will.”

Hamann claims the “extra” incentive to give Klopp the goodbye he deserves could be what clinches the league for Liverpool:

“I think it gives them that extra boost because everybody wants him to go and send him off with the most possible success. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they win more than the Premier League this season.”

It would be the perfect send-off for Klopp

With the manager leaving Anfield in June after nearly nine years in charge, it seems fitting for him to go out with a bang.

The last time that Liverpool won the league was in an empty stadium so it would be a moment for fans to cherish if Klopp and his team managed to finish first for the second time in four years.

Hamann is forgetting Liverpool’s other challenger

Arsenal brought themselves back into contention by beating the Reds a couple of weeks ago so it is slightly surprising that Hamann doesn’t mention them.

The Gunners reinforced their title credentials with a 6-0 win over West Ham last time out, so the Reds may have two teams to see off in order to win the league. The last few months could prove to be a thrilling end to Klopp’s time at Liverpool.
