“Absolutely Outstanding!” – Paul Merson Names £60M Summer Signing As His Favourite Player In The Premier League

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says he has been seriously impressed by Dominik Szoboszlai since he moved to Liverpool in the summer.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, the former Arsenal midfielder said that the £60m signing has done exceptionally well during his first few months in English football:

“Dominik Szoboszlai, on the other hand, has been my favourite player in the Premier League this season – he’s been absolutely outstanding! He’s come into a brand new league for a huge fee and settled in quicker than snow, that is some achievement.”

Merson has previously praised the Hungarian international for his performances, and it’s clear that the player has made a lasting impression, despite only spending a brief period on Merseyside.

Szobozslai will be hoping for more goal contributions

Despite catching the eye with his forward runs, strength and technical ability, the midfielder hasn’t been involved in as many goals as he would have liked.

2 goals and 2 assists in 14 appearances is a decent return but Szoboszlai will be keen to improve those numbers in the coming weeks and months.

Klopp is delighted with Liverpool’s revamped midfield

By bringing in the likes of Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch for a combined £130m over the summer, the Reds have dramatically reduced the age of their midfield. All three are 24 or under and manager Jurgen Klopp has said that it was a deliberate policy to target younger players:

“People want change in the right moment, you don’t want to change when you don’t need to and [then] people say, ‘hey, why did we change?’ But obviously, it was time. From the oldest midfield in the league to nearly the youngest in the league, it’s good.”

With Szoboszlai, in particular, it looks like Liverpool have a real gem on their hands who could be a key component of the starting lineup for years to come.
