Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards says he does not believe Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season.
The Reds will go 1st if they beat Brighton on Sunday afternoon. However, their stay at the top of the table could be brief if Arsenal beat Manchester City later on in the day. Richards claims that the victor at the Etihad may end up as champions:
“No, they’re not going to win the league, I think it’s Man City or Arsenal. I think Man City will win the league, I think it depends what happens on Sunday, if Arsenal go to the Etihad and win…”
It is somewhat surprising that Richards is so dismissive of Jurgen Klopp’s side’s title credentials. After all, the Reds have only lost two Premier League games all season. There are, however, reasons to be cautious about their ability to finish in top spot.
Liverpool’s injury situation remains a concern
There are currently eight players on the treatment table. Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson (both ankle) are the closest to making their comebacks. The former could even be on the bench against Brighton.
However, the likes of Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajcetic are some way off from being back in contention, while Joel Matip and Thiago are not expected to play again this campaign.
There are some tough fixtures left to play
While City have a pretty straightforward run-in after the Arsenal fixture, Liverpool still have to play away at Everton and Manchester United.
Their remaining matches may not be as hard as Arsenal’s, but Klopp’s men will know they will have to pick up points at some difficult grounds if they are to secure the title.
