Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi is “not in the frame” to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Liverpool dugout, according to talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan.

The Italian is regarded as one of the two frontrunners for the job, along with bookies’ favourite Xabi Alonso but, when asked whether he thinks De Zerbi is a contender, Jordan said that he doesn’t see the Seagulls boss moving teams:

“No, I can’t see him being interviewed by Liverpool. His name is not in the frame, he’s either going to be given the job or he’s not going to be given the job.”

“The bottom line is if you’re going after somebody who’s already got a job, what are Brighton going to do? Say, ‘Go ahead and interview our manager if you fancy him and if you don’t fancy him send him back to us’?”

“Do I think he will get the job at Liverpool? I don’t know, managing Brighton and managing Liverpool are two different things.”

Jordan doesn’t have any insider knowledge

It is not believed that Jordan has the inside track on Liverpool’s recruitment process so it is probably wise to take his remarks with a very large pinch of salt.

At the start of last month, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that De Zerbi and Alonso were on the shortlist of candidates that Liverpool’s owners FSG were considering as Klopp’s replacement.

Liverpool can’t wait too long before appointing a new manager

With Michael Edwards having returned to become CEO of Football Operations at FSG, it should lead to the club accelerating their efforts to find a new manager.

Considering that Bayern Munich are keen on appointing Alonso, and both Chelsea & Manchester United have been linked with De Zerbi, Liverpool must ensure that they tie down their preferred candidate as soon as possible.
