39 Year Old Manager (With 75.7% Win Ratio This Season) Speaks Out Amid Interest From Liverpool And Chelsea

Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has refused to commit his long-term future to the club, amid links to the Liverpool and Chelsea jobs.

The 39-year-old has already stated that he will leave his post this summer if he doesn’t win a trophy and, asked again about his plans before the 3-3 draw against Rio Ave on Sunday, he said:

“I’m not going to dwell on my future, I’ve already said what I had to say. Every time I talk about it the topic comes up again. I just want to beat Rio Ave and then we’ll see.”

Amorim’s Sporting currently sit two points off the top of the Liga Portugal table, although they do have a game a hand on first place Benfica.

In all competitions this campaign, Amorim has a win ratio of 75.7%, having won 28, drawn 5 and lost just 4 of his 35 matches.

The links to Chelsea may complicate Liverpool’s pursuit of Amorim

With Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino coming under increasing pressure following the defeat to the Reds in the Carabao Cup final, it has been speculated that Amorim is being considered as a potential replacement.

Although he is not top of Liverpool’s list of options to succeed Jurgen Klopp, they could have a fight on their hands to secure the Portuguese coach’s signature if they do turn their attention towards him in the coming months.

What are the bookmakers saying about Liverpool’s next manager?

Amorim has moved up to second favourite at some bookies, with Bet 365 now pricing him at 3/1 to replace Klopp. However, Xabi Alonso remains odds-on to take the Anfield hot seat.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is also very much still in the running, while Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann will come under consideration as well.

However, the odds for current assistant coach Pep Lijnders to be appointed are lengthening, with it now looking likely that the Dutchman will move to Ajax.
