Jamie Carragher Claims Liverpool May Have Their Very Own Patrick Vieira In Their Ranks

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says that Ryan Gravenberch “reminds” him of Patrick Vieira.

The Dutchman has had a good start to life at Anfield after joining on deadline day last month, and Carragher claims he can see similarities between the midfielder and the former Arsenal player:

“As for Gravenberch, he hasn’t played as much, you are looking at the potential and thinking it could be something really special there.”

“You are seeing signs of that, the way he moves and glides past people. There is something there and, if Jurgen Klopp and his staff can make that into something good, we could have a really special player.”

“Just looking at him, he looks like a footballer: the size, the physique. He reminds me a little bit of Patrick Vieira, that way he glides through with the ball. You can see signs of that.”

Gravenberch is a player with massive potential

Bayern Munich were very reluctant to sell the 21-year-old to Liverpool, as they felt that they would be losing a player who could be a real star in the future.

Gravenberch wasn’t, though, getting any game time in Germany, and it appears he was really pushing to make the switch to Anfield where he feels he can realise his potential. Based on his first few performances, it looks like the Reds have found themselves a real gem.

The Liverpool player has some way to go to reach Vieira’s level

Carragher may be putting too much pressure on Gravenberch by mentioning Vieira but, superficially, in terms of physical stature and running styles, there are definite parallels.

Whether those similarities are more than skin deep, though, we shall have to wait and see. Vieira is an Arsenal and France legend, having won 19 trophies for both club and country, including the World Cup. Gravenberch will do well to match even half of those achievements.
