“Could Be Their Downfall” – Theo Walcott Claims 4 Game Run May End Liverpool’s Title Challenge

Ex-Arsenal and Everton winger Theo Walcott says Liverpool’s run of four away games later this month could jeopardise their title hopes.

The Reds take on Atalanta in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final on April 18th followed by three fixtures away from Anfield, and Walcott claims it may have an impact on the team’s energy levels:

“The one thing I would say about Liverpool is that they have four away games consistently after Atalanta, which could be their downfall. That is the only thing I would say. Having to play Atalanta, Fulham, Everton and West Ham all away.”

“Having away games is not nice, because there are other things which could affect it like players leaving their homes constantly for four away games, that takes a lot out of players.”

It is a difficult run of matches

Walcott is correct to point out that those four fixtures will come during a decisive period in the season for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Fans will probably be less concerned about the Atalanta and Fulham games, although neither will be a walk in the park. Travelling to Goodison Park and the London Stadium are likely to prove tougher tests for Liverpool’s title credentials.

Liverpool could have key players back from injury by then

The Reds’ job would be made a lot harder if they had to negotiate those matches with a threadbare squad. Fatigue by having to use the same players every few days would have a bearing on results. However, the club’s injury crisis does appear to be easing.

Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson played against Sheffield United midweek after recent injury scares. The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajcetic are set to return to full training while Alisson Becker is closing in on his comeback too.
