Liverpool are expected to hold talks with the agents of Thiago Alcantara about signing a contract extension, according to Caught Offside.
The Spaniard’s current deal expires at the end of the season but the Reds are keen to retain the midfielder’s services beyond next summer.
However, fans on X are very surprised that the Merseyside club are considering keeping Thiago due to his poor injury record:

Love Thiago. But makes absolutely no sense to hand a new contract to him given the injury record.

Sell him off right away.

Klopp wants to keep Thiago
Despite the fact that the 32-year-old has missed nearly 80 matches due to fitness problems over the past three years, Caught Offside report that manager Jurgen Klopp is a “big fan” of the player and wants to keep him at Anfield.
The German was the main driving force behind bringing him to the club in 2020, and it appears he still feels Thiago can be of some use to the first team.
Offering an extension on a reduced salary
Thiago is currently earning around £200,000 a week at Liverpool, based on Capology‘s data, which makes the midfielder the third-highest earner at the club.
Due to his injury history and age, an extension that lowers his current basic wage would be preferable, as he is unlikely to be a regular starter going forward.
Whether Thiago would accept such an offer, considering he does have interest from Saudi Arabia as well, we shall have to wait and see.
