Liverpool Set To Battle PL Rival For Austrian Midfield General Who Has Admitted He Would Like To Play In England

Liverpool are expected to be joined by Chelsea in the race for RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer, according to reports in German media.

The Austrian international is set to leave the Bundesliga club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and he revealed last month that he was a “fan” of the Reds and the Premier League in general.

Chelsea are already said to be keen on signing two other RB Leipzig players in Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol but neither they nor Liverpool are currently the favourites for Laimer’s signature.

It is believed that Bayern Munich already have a verbal agreement with the player, which suggests that he will turn down approaches from the likes of Jurgen Klopp’s side if they do try to secure him on pre-contract agreement in January.

The Reds are thought to be pursuing a number of different targets to strengthen their options in midfield so, if they do miss out on Laimer, they are expected to quickly move on to others on their list.
