Liverpool ‘Set To Complete’ First Summer Transfer As They Poach Defender From PL Rivals

Anfield

Liverpool are “set to complete a deal” to sign Wolves defender Harvey Owen, according to The Secret Scout.

The Twitter account, which is known to be very accurate when it comes to the transfers of youth players, claims the 14-year-old is set to make the switch from the Midlands to Anfield for £800,000:

Owen is a centre-back by trade, and he will likely go straight into the Reds’ academy at Under 15 level, with the hope that he can make swift progress through the youth ranks at Kirkby in the coming years.

£800,000 is a surprisingly high figure for such a young player but, as the Secret Scout mentions, Brexit rules mean Liverpool and other Premier League teams can’t really poach youth players from overseas anymore.

There is, therefore, a limited pool of talent that English teams are fighting over, and it has led to the Reds’ decision to shell out a sizeable sum on Owen.
