Liverpool Star Confirms Extent Of Injury After Revealing He Hasn’t Trained For Two And A Half Weeks

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has confirmed he has been carrying an ankle injury through a number of games in the last few weeks, and he hasn’t even been training during that time.

The 25-year-old withdrew from international duty earlier this week and while he said he was reluctant to do so, he would have risked being out for an extended period if he hadn’t given himself a rest:

“For the last two and a half weeks I’ve not trained at all for Liverpool. I’ve trained the day before a game, missed a Champions League game other than the last 15 minutes against Genk and missed Arsenal in the League Cup.”

“It’s a niggling injury which won’t go away unless I give it time. If you know Liverpool and our schedule we don’t have time and after suffering another knock against Man City on Sunday it has gotten worse.”

“My ankle was already injured but Rodri tackled me late on in the middle of the park against Manchester City and it opened my ankle up again. I was already a doubt but unfortunately, that made it even worse and that sealed it. I probably knew that just as it happened.”

“For me, when I look back at my career so far I’ve played games I probably shouldn’t have due to injuries and I’ve maybe been lucky not to make it worse.”

“I am paid to play football and love playing football but if I keep playing this ankle is going to get worse and will be no use to anyone sitting on a treatment table.”

Robertson is a major doubt for Liverpool’s next game against Crystal Palace on Saturday week, with the extent of his ankle problem only likely to be known when the swelling subsides.

The knock he sustained from Rodri in the closing stages of the 3-1 win against Manchester City on Sunday means a minor injury has now become a more serious one.

Robertson has not missed a Premier League game this season, playing the full 90 minutes in all 12 matches so far, but James Milner may have to step in as his understudy when the Reds travel to Selhurst Park.
