Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs “interested in signing” Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, according to 90min.com.

The website claims that the Reds have been joined by Manchester City and Chelsea in pursuing the Canadian international but there are concerns that the player has already decided his next destination.

Real Madrid are believed to be Davies’ preference so there is no expectation at this stage that he will end up at Anfield or another English club.

The fullback‘s agent has denied that there is any agreement over a move to Spain but the general feeling is that a transfer to the Bernabeu will happen next summer.

Why is Davies looking to leave Bayern?

The 22-year-old was actually close to agreeing a new contract with the Bundesliga champions but those negotiations stalled when CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic were sacked earlier this year.

New executives are now in place but it is believed that discussions have not been positive over extending his £189,000 a week contract beyond 2025. If Davies doesn’t sign a new deal, Bayern will be forced into selling him at the end of the season.

Why were Liverpool trying to sign Davies?

Andy Robertson will turn 30 in March and, with Davies being almost 8 years younger than the Scotland captain, the Canadian was likely considered as a long-term replacement.

Kostas Tsimikas is an able backup but he does not have the ability to be Liverpool’s regular starter on the left-hand side of defence. The fact that he is also already 27 means his career at the top level won’t go on for much longer than Robertson. If it is not possible to sign Davies, the Reds will begin scouring the market for an alternative.
