Stan Collymore Calls On Liverpool To Bid For “Exceptional” Player That Steven Gerrard Signed Last Year

Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes his former club should consider making a bid for Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

The Frenchman only made the switch to Villa Park last summer after then-manager Steven Gerrard persuaded him to join the Midlands club on a free transfer. Even so, Collymore thinks that the 23-year-old should be on the Reds’ radar to replace Fabinho:

“Although it might be a little too soon for him, Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara would be an excellent acquisition for Klopp having been exceptional at times last season – although I think Aston Villa won’t be motivated to sell him this summer.”

A Collymore says, it would be a surprise if Villa were prepared to let Kamara go. They are a club with big ambitions, having already signed Villarreal’s Pau Torres this summer and with plans to buy Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby as well.

You can’t see Kamara being sold on the cheap and, for that reason, a move for the France international is pretty unlikely.

Liverpool have identified four other midfield targets

While Kamara may not be on the agenda, the Reds are considering their options in terms of strengthening numbers in the middle of the park.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is believed to be top of the list of targets, but his £50m price tag will be an issue.

The likes of Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and even Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips have been looked at too.

Fabinho’s departure looks likely

After Al-Ittihad submitted a £40m bid, the Brazilian international was left out of the squad for the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany.

While the deal hasn’t been finalised yet, there is an expectation that Fabinho will seal his move to Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool were certainly not planning for the 29-year-old’s departure and it is very clear that the Merseyside club have been caught short in terms of having a replacement lined up. As well as Kamara, plenty of other names could well be mentioned as potential targets over the coming days and weeks.
