Liverpool are fans of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds, along with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, have been credited with an interest in the Brazilian international but, while he does confirm the Merseyside club rate the player highly, Romano has played down the prospect of a bid being lodged. He wrote in his Caught Offside Substack column:

“Some fans have also been asking me about Bruno and Liverpool transfer rumours, but they are very happy with the midfield they have.”

“I can say, though, that those around Jurgen Klopp rate Bruno Guimaraes really highly and he’s always been super appreciated by people at Liverpool. There’s nothing else to mention at the moment.”

A release clause could help Liverpool sign Guimaraes

In addition to confirming the Reds’ interest in the 25-year-old, Romano has recently revealed that the midfielder is expected to sign a new contract with Newcastle, which includes a release clause.

The buyout fee is said to be in the region of £100m, which is unlikely to deter Jurgen Klopp’s side, who bid £110m for Moises Caicedo in the summer transfer window.

The final piece in the jigsaw

Despite recruiting Wataru Endo from Stuttgart, it could be argued that Liverpool still haven’t really found a replacement for Fabinho.

The Merseysiders have brought in a lot of talent in midfield, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch all joining to revamp a key area of the pitch. However, there is still no world-class No.6 in the squad.

Stefan Bajcetic does have potential but, if the Reds were to snap up Guimaraes, they would be signing someone who could come in and do the job straight away.
