Liverpool would be one of Federico Chiesa’s preferred destinations if the winger leaves Juventus this summer, according to journalist Marco Guidi.

Speaking to Calciomercato.it’s TV Play, Guidi said that the Italian international would like to join a traditional high-profile team:

“The player would be more inclined to sign for a classic top club, such as Liverpool or Bayern Munich.”

In addition to the Reds, both Manchester United and Newcastle have been mentioned as potential suitors in recent days but, speaking specifically about the Magpies, Guidi said a transfer may only happen if Chiesa can’t find a move somewhere else first:

“If Newcastle have the economic strength they will try to take Chiesa. The Newcastle option could only be taken into consideration at the end of the transfer market, in the case of few offers on the plate.”

From the looks of things, it appears a switch to St James’ Park is off the table anyway, with Newcastle closing in on signing Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes.

Liverpool are unlikely to make a bid for Chiesa

Even though there is a lot of speculation about Jurgen Klopp’s side pursuing the Italian international, there is very little chance that an offer will be made for the player.

There are currently five forwards for three positions in the first-team squad, with Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota all vying for spots.

There is only one scenario where a move could be considered

Diaz has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia but the Reds have so far knocked back any interest in the Colombian international.

However, if they receive an offer that was too good to turn down, it would open a space in the squad for Chiesa. Juve are reportedly demanding around €50m (£43m) for the Italian so we shall see how the situation unfolds.
