Liverpool are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to the Daily Star.
The English tabloid claims that manager Jurgen Klopp is a “huge admirer” of the German international, and the Reds could potentially compete with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the player’s services.
Supporters on X are very much behind making an offer for Wirtz, although some are not sure where the 20-year-old would fit into Klopp’s starting lineup:

Could Wirtz be Liverpool’s replacement for Mo Salah?
The Daily Star claim that the German could “fill Mo Salah’s record-scoring boots” but the pair are not really similar types of player.
Salah is very much a forward, who plays off the right wing, cutting in onto his strong left foot. In contrast, Wirtz is a right-footed no.10 who can be played on the right flank if needed.
Wirtz won’t be available on the cheap
In addition to question marks about his suitability for Liverpool’s tactical setup, Leverkusen will reportedly demand at least £80m to sell Wirtz.
The Bundesliga side want more than their current record transfer fee received, which is the £71m that Chelsea paid for Kai Havertz back in 2020.
While Wirtz is clearly a very talented player, he would be a luxury signing for the Reds, rather than one they really need.
