Liverpool transfer target Ryan Gravenberch has said that he would prefer to stay at Bayern Munich next season but only if he plays on a regular basis.

The Netherlands international started just three leagues games in his first campaign at the Bundesliga club and, asked about what he hopes to happen in the future, the midfielder said:

“I just want to play more, preferably at Bayern Munich. And otherwise at a club where I am going to play 100 percent. That’s my preference. I don’t want to have another season like the one I had now. One season is good, I really learned a lot but I just want to play football.”

The Reds, along with Manchester United and Arsenal, have been credited with an interest in Gravenberch. Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to have held talks with the player’s father in recent weeks. However, it looks as though Gravenberch wants discussions with Bayern about his playing time before making a decision on a transfer.

Gravenberch’s future will depend on Thomas Tuchel

The former Chelsea boss was only appointed as Bayern head coach back in March, and he did start Gravenberch in the title decider against Cologne on the final day of the season, which suggests he does have faith in the player.

However, Bayern have just brought in Konrad Laimer on a free transfer from RB Leipzig, while Tuchel has also been pressing to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Even if the German club lose out to Arsenal for the Hammers captain, as many expect they will, it still suggests they are in the market for another midfielder. That raises further doubts about Gravenberch’s prospects for playing regularly. Liverpool will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on the Dutchman’s situation, and a move can’t be ruled out before the transfer window closes in August.
