Brighton haven’t even set an “asking price” for Liverpool target Kaoru Mitoma, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds, Manchester City, Barcelona and Napoli have all reportedly been keeping tabs on the Japanese international, but Romano says there is no concrete interest in the player:
“My understanding is that there is nothing at the moment – I asked today and there is nothing to report on player or club side. Brighton love Mitoma and for sure they want him to stay on a long-term deal, it’s very normal to see top clubs following him but as I said for Evan Ferguson, also for Mitoma we’ll get ten or more links per week but nothing will happen this or next month. Mitoma is 100% focused on Brighton and they don’t even want to mention an asking price for the player.”
Romano’s remarks back up what other sources have been reporting about Mitoma, with it being claimed that Brighton are keen to tie down the 26-year-old to a new contract.
Negotiations are said to have started at the beginning of the year, and talks over an agreement are now at an advanced stage.
Mitoma has been putting in some excellent performances
The winger has caught the eye with his displays for both club and country since the start of the season. He scored a sublime solo goal against Wolves, as well as providing 3 assists in 4 appearances for the Seagulls.
Mitoma also played alongside Wataru Endo in Japan’s shock 4-1 win against Germany on Saturday evening.
Liverpool will be targeting a different type of winger
While Mitoma is an excellent player, he prefers to play on the left flank, cutting in onto his stronger right foot. The Reds are already well covered in that area, with the likes of Luis Diaz.
If Jurgen Klopp’s side do pursue a winger in the near future, it will likely be a replacement for Mo Salah on the right-hand side.
