Liverpool are “expected to wait” until the summer transfer window before making their move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to The Mirror.

The England international is said to be one of the centre-backs that the Reds are interested in signing but it is believed that his club would be more willing to sell at the end of the season.

With Joel Matip ruled out with an ACL injury, there has been some speculation that Jurgen Klopp’s side may sign a replacement this month.

However, it appears that the Premier League leaders will keep faith with 20-year-old Jarell Quansah, who has impressed after being given first team opportunities this campaign.

Liverpool will have competition for Guehi

A number of other Premier League teams are known to be keeping tabs on the centre-half. Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and former club Chelsea have all been credited with an interest in the player.

Guehi is, though, said to be content to stay at Selhurst Park, at least until the summer. He wants to ensure that he gets regular game time so he makes the England squad for Euro 2024.

Palace will set a high asking price

Guehi is said to be valued between £50m and £60m by Palace, and there are a number of reasons why they feel justified in maintaining their asking price.

The defender is homegrown, which makes him a particularly attractive target for Liverpool who need to increase their numbers for their Premier League quota.

Despite being right-footed, Guehi is also comfortable playing as the left-sided centre-back, which is not a common trait. There are certainly parallels there to Virgil van Dijk.

On top of that, the Englishman is still only 23, meaning he has plenty of years ahead of him at the top level.
