Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would have found ways to get more out of Mason Mount if he had moved to the Reds in the summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The England international joined Manchester United from Chelsea for an initial £55m back in July but, speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones said the midfielder would have been a better fit for Klopp’s style of play:

“I’m sure Liverpool don’t dedicate a huge amount [and] don’t have time to the fact that they didn’t get Mount, but if you were to ask them how they feel about that situation now, I still feel like Klopp would believe he’d be getting more out of him than Man United are getting out of Mount.”

“I think that he would have found a role for him within his team that is better suited towards him and he would have found a way of making sure that Mount was more beneficial to Liverpool’s setup than he has been to United’s setup.”

Mount has struggled for form and fitness since making the switch to United

The 24-year-old has not had the best of times after swapping Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford. In 11 appearances for the Red Devils, Mount has scored 0 goals and provided 1 solitary assist.

While the midfielder did miss a month of action due to a hamstring injury, he has been fully fit since the end of September and there has been no discernable improvement in his performances. The fact that he has only started one match (against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup) over the last month suggests his manager Erik ten Hag has not been impressed with his form either.

Liverpool have found an outstanding alternative to Mount

After giving up the pursuit of Mount in June, the Reds moved on to secure the services of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for €70m (£60m) instead.

The Hungarian international has impressed fans and pundits alike with his displays, and many believe he will ultimately prove to be a better signing than Mount.
