Mark Lawrenson Suggests Klopp May Have “Already Had A Conversation” With Player About £100M Transfer

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes manager Jurgen Klopp may have “already had a conversation” with Mo Salah about his future at the club.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson said it may already be the case that Salah’s move to Saudi Arabia has been sanctioned and the pundit thinks it would be the correct decision to sell the Egyptian with one year left on his contract:

“I’m sure the club would be happy to say, ‘thanks for your service to the club, we’ll get £100m and you get plenty of money and good luck!’, and I think the plus side of this is that Liverpool will be looking around in the market already for a replacement. They’ll have a shortlist of strikers noted down, but they do have four already, which is good for when Salah leaves, they have backup.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager and the player have already had a conversation about it, Jürgen Klopp would be asking for him to give everything till the end of the season and then he can go. Salah will already be on silly money so it makes no sense for him to try and get more money from Liverpool because when you get past the age of 30, you don’t play as many games, and then the club wouldn’t be getting bang for their buck.”

Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain

The 31-year-old will have just a year left on his current deal at the end of the season and many, including Lawrenson it seems, feel it is the right time to let the forward leave.

After rejecting £100m+ from Al-Ittihad in September, the Reds know that Saudi Arabian clubs are likely to make further attempts to sign Salah, and it might not be worth standing in his way.

Would Liverpool be letting go of Salah too early?

Lawrenson is right to point out that there would be very little sell-on value if the Merseyside club choose to hand the former Chelsea star another contract extension.

However, Salah has shown no signs of slowing down in terms of his performance levels. Considering he is a world-class player, the club may still regret selling him when he is still at his peak.
