Liverpool Have £26M Bid Knocked Back For The ‘New De Ligt’ But Klopp Wants Him At All Costs

Perr Schuurs is a transfer target for Liverpool

Torino have rejected a €30m (£26m) bid from Liverpool for centre-back Perr Schuurs, according to Tuttosport.

The Reds are, however, expected to make another offer for the Dutchman, with manager Jurgen Klopp thought to be determined to secure the player’s signature.

There will be competition for Schuur, though, with Napoli having had a bid of their own knocked back, with the Serie A champions said to have tabled a proposal that included €25m (£21.4m) upfront and another €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons.

Tuttosport claim Torino have set a €40m (£34m) asking price for the 23-year-old, and the Italian newspaper believe there is a possibility that Liverpool will match the valuation.

Klopp reportedly tried to sign Schuurs last summer

The centre-half was at Ajax until last year, where he had been described as the ‘new Matthijs de Ligt’, having replaced his fellow countryman in the Eredivisie side’s starting lineup when the de Ligt left for Juventus in 2019.

The Reds had been linked with Schuurs during his time at the Dutch club and Tuttosport claim that the defender actually turned down a move to Anfield to make the switch to Torino.

Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back

Respected journalists, including Fabrizio Romano, have confirmed that the Merseysiders are looking to reinforce their options a the back. However, it is believed that a left-sided player is the priority.

Schuurs is right-footed and he spent most of last season playing in the centre or on the right-hand side of a back three. For that reason, the former Netherlands Under 21 international isn’t the most likely target.

Sources in the UK have yet to weigh in on the reports, so supporters should probably treat these claims from Italy with some caution, especially as Schurrs doesn’t really fit the profile for what the Reds are looking for.
