Liverpool are expected to make “two or three” signings this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on The Debrief podcast, Romano said that a move for a centre-back is “already” in the works but other additions could be made during the next transfer window:

“It could be busy, I think it could be busy, a new centre-back for sure, they are working on that already. So a new centre-back and I think something in the offensive positions. I expect Liverpool to complete something like two or three signings this summer.”

A move for a centre-half has been widely touted, especially as Joel Matip is expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next month.

Which defenders have Liverpool been linked with?

In recent days a move for Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly has been suggested. The 25-year-old is a long-term target for the club and he can be secured on a free.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo could also be brought in without a transfer fee being paid due to his contract situation.

In terms of more high-profile deals, the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho (who could cost in excess of £50m) and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi have been mentioned as possible options.

Will the club pursue targets in other positions?

As Romano suggests, more attack-minded players could be recruited too. Another reliable journalist, David Ornstein, has claimed that snapping up a wide forward is on the agenda.

Incoming manager Arne Slot is known for liking wingers so reports linking the Reds with the likes of Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko and even Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia should not be readily dismissed.

A lot will of course depend on the budget and how much can be raised through player sales. It has been claimed that the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez could leave Anfield in the coming weeks and, if they were to depart, it could aid the club’s ambitions in the transfer market.
