Liverpool have “held talks” with both Bayern Munich and Crystal Palace as they press ahead with plans to sign Ryan Gravenberch and Cheick Doucoure, according to the Daily Mail.

The English tabloid claims that the Reds’ discussions with Bayern about Gravenberch were particularly “productive”, although there is still no indication that the Bundesliga champions are willing to let the Dutchman leave.

Gravenberch was only signed from Ajax last summer for £21m but he has not been a regular starter and he did not even get on the pitch for Bayern’s league opener against Werder Bremen on Friday night.

For that reason, it is believed that the Netherlands international is “open” to leaving the Allianz Arena before the transfer window closes in ten days’ time.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay up to £30m for Gravenberch but it remains to be seen whether that would be enough to secure his services. The Merseyside club will also have to fend off Manchester United, who are said to be pursuing the player as well.

Doucoure could be an even more expensive purchase

While the Crystal Palace star is clearly on the Reds’ radar, it is pretty telling that they have yet to make a formal offer for the midfielder.

The main issue is likely to be Doucoure’s asking price. Reports last month suggested that the Malian international could cost as much as £70m.

With the arrival of Wataru Endo at the club, the need for a new holding midfielder has become less pressing so you can’t see Liverpool paying well over the odds to sign another player in the same position.

Liverpool still have work to do in the transfer market

In addition to adding more depth in midfield, recruiting another centre-back is still on the agenda. However, it appears that the club have missed out on one option.

Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio has signed a new contract. Considering the defender is left-footed and only 21 years of age, he could have been an ideal target. The search for alternatives is likely to continue.
