Longest Serving Current Managers In The Premier League After Former Liverpool Boss Sacked

On Sunday, April 2, one of the longest-serving managers in the Premier League was sacked – former Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers.

The 50-year-old was given the boot after Leicester City’s defeat against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace left the Foxes mired in the relegation zone.

With that said, who are the longest-serving managers who are currently signed to a team in the Premier League?

There are just two managers who have been at their respective clubs for more than five years – Premier League owners take no prisoners in the modern game.

Mikel Arteta

First up is Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta – the Spaniard has been in charge of the Gunners since December of 2019. Initially, he looked to be an underwhelming appointment – but his success this season has vindicated him.

Arteta has guided Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table this season – a title victory looks to be on the cards, but the campaign is far from over.

You would not expect a manager who has been in his position for less than four years to appear on a list such as this – however, that is the nature of modern football.

Thomas Frank

Brentford’s Thomas Frank is currently working wonders in West London. He’s been in charge of the Bees since October of 2018 and he isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

This season, Brentford have gone from strength to strength. They are a threat to any team at home – as shown when they defeated Manchester United by a score of 4-0 early in the campaign.

If Frank does leave Brentford, he’s extremely unlikely to be sacked, given the scale of the job he has performed. Despite this, he could be poached by a bigger club – perhaps Chelsea will take an interest in the Bees boss?

Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers of all time. Even when City are underperforming, sacking the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss never seems to be a serious topic of conversation – such is the talent of the Spaniard.

Guardiola’s penchant for winning trophies is the stuff of legend. While at City, he has won four Premier League trophies, four League Cups and one FA Cup.

City were already established on the world stage when Guardiola arrived. Nevertheless, Pep played a huge role in maintaining their position – he has, however, yet to win the Champions League with the Sky Blues.

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp recently joked in a press conference that he is the ‘last man standing’ – in many ways, his harmless gag carries a lot of truth with it.

Klopp has been at the Liverpool helm since October of 2015 – such longevity in the modern game, where managers are chopped and changed so frequently, is seriously impressive.

On the whole, Klopp’s time at with the Reds has been a massive success. They may not be doing so well this season, but they won their first Premier League title under the German’s guidance – as well as the Champions League in 2019.
