Merson Names The Signing That Liverpool Are “Crying Out For” As He Delivers Verdict On Club’s Transfer Business

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Liverpool still need to recruit another midfielder if they are to compete at the top end of the Premier League next season.

Fans have been calling on the club to strengthen the midfield and Merson is in agreement, stating that Jurgen Klopp’s side need more energy in the engine room; something that a player like Jude Bellingham can provide:

“I think Liverpool are crying out for a midfield player. I don’t think their midfield is strong enough. Jude Bellingham is a good player, and I think he would be a great signing. Liverpool are currently relying solely on their full-backs for energy. Thiago’s not a box-to-box midfielder, and Jordan Henderson is another year older. They need legs in midfield, and Jude Bellingham could be that box-to-box presence for the side.”

Although it is an area of the pitch that the Reds have clearly looked at improving, going by their interest in Aurelien Tchouameni, it appears that they won’t be making moves to strengthen the position this summer.

Bellingham is a long-term target, though, and it is widely believed that an attempt will be made to sign him from Borussia Dortmund next year, when he will have only two years left on his contract.

Competition for the teenager is expected to be fierce, though, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City having also been credited with an interest in the player.
