James Pearce Claims There’s A “Stumbling Block” In Liverpool’s Plan To Sign Bellingham And It Isn’t The Transfer Fee

Jude Bellingham’s wage demands could be a “potential stumbling block” if Liverpool do try and sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, according to The Athletic journalist James Pearce.

The website’s Reds correspondent claims that even though the England international could fetch around €120m (£103m), that won’t “scare off” the Merseyside club from pursuing the teenager, as they believe his age and potential would warrant the outlay. However, it appears personal terms could turn out to be more of an issue:

It is a somewhat surprising statement from Pearce, considering Bellingham is unlikely to be on a massive salary at Dortmund, but he may be making his assessment based on a similar deal involving Jadon Sancho.

The 22-year-old is believed to be on £350,000 a week at Manchester United, which is the same amount that Mo Salah is now earning after the Egyptian signed a new contract.

There is no way Liverpool would agree to give Bellingham a similar wage so it will be hoped the player and his representatives will be more reasonable. Even so, there is a danger that other teams, such as Chelsea and United, could offer the player better terms and secure his signature instead.
