Michael Owen On Why He’s Backing Liverpool To Triumph Over Bayern Munich This Evening

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen is backing the Reds to come out on top against Bayern Munich tonight.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will play the second leg after drawing 0-0 at home, but Owen feels that his former side have what it takes to progress against the Bundesliga giants:

“This away-goal rule could play into Liverpool’s hands now. So it is a 50/50 game. Liverpool, of course, have conceded a couple of goals against Burnley, but in general, they have been looking as solid as a rock at the back.

“It’s feast or famine at the moment up front. They are either not scoring or scoring fours and fives, but we know there are goals in there and Bayern Munich are on a nice little run, too.”

“They scored plenty of goals at the weekend [beating Wolfsburg 6-0] but it’s not the best Bayern team I’ve ever seen. They aren’t streaking clear at the top of the Bundesliga, so I’m pretty confident.”

Liverpool will be without Naby Keita going into tonight’s match at the Allianz Arena. The Guinean has picked up a minor knock and won’t be included in the matchday squad this evening.

James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold have trained before the Champions League clash and are expected to feature.

Milner did not play against Burnley at the weekend due to a hamstring injury while Alexander-Arnold had to be substituted in the 4-2 win due to a muscular problem.

Dejan Lovren is also back fit after making the bench on Sunday following two months put with his own hamstring problem. Still, Klopp will most likely keep with the same backline that has conceded just twice in the last six games.
