Danny Murphy is backing his former club Liverpool to win the Premier League title this season, after narrowly missing out last campaign.
The Reds have three wins from their first three games, sitting top of the table, and Murphy believes Jurgen Klopp’s men have what it takes to go one better this year. The former midfielder thinks Manchester City’s focus on the Champions League could distract them from the league:
“I think Liverpool will win the league this year. Only one club had done it three times on the trot and I think Man City will be so Champions League focused. So I’m going Liverpool, City and then Tottenham, I think they’ll take third.”
In terms of the rest of the top four, Murphy has surprisingly backed Manchester United ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea for the fourth spot behind Spurs.
Considering both United and Tottenham suffered shock losses at home this weekend, that prediction may have to be revised in the coming weeks. For Liverpool, though, their start to the campaign couldn’t have gone much better.
The Reds are the only team left with a 100% record, and a win away at Burnley next Saturday would be a big boost heading into the international break.
