Newcastle United slap £35 million price tag on Liverpool target

Newcastle United have named their price for Liverpool target Jamaal Lascelles.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in bringing the highly rated Englishman to Anfield this summer as he looks to reinforce his defence ahead of the new season.

However according to The Mirror, the Reds fill have to pay as much as £35 million to lure Lascelles away from St. James Park.

Rafael Benitez is determined to keep Lascelles on Tyneside after what was a brilliant first full season in the Premier League for the defender.

The 24-year-old captained Newcastle for 32 of their 38 top flight games last term, and chipped in with three goals to help the Magpies to a top-half finish upon their return to the Premier League.

West Ham have already seen a £25 million bid rejected for Lascelles by Newcastle, and the defender’s comments following the Hammers approach suggest he doesn’t instead to leave the club in the coming months.

“I’m happy here, I’m a Newcastle player, I’m still tied down to a long contract,” he said.

However, should one of the Premier League’s bigger comes come calling, Lascelles, and Newcastle, may be unable to turn down an opportunity to move.

The Magpies find themselves in the midst of financial trouble following their failed takeover last term, and £35 million may be an offer too large to refuse – while Lascelles can also improve his chance of an England call-up with a move to one of the Premier League’s top four.

Chelsea are also understood to be interested in the 24-year-old.
