Harry Redknapp feels Liverpool should have attempted to sign Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero before the transfer window closed.
The Argentinian international is now third choice behind David De Gea and Dean Henderson at Old Trafford and the player’s wife has since come out to criticise the Manchester club’s treatment of the player. Redknapp believes Romero would have been a good option to have considering Alisson Becker faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines:
“You would have thought he might have gone to Liverpool. Liverpool need a goalkeeper. They need a goalkeeper more than Everton. If Alisson is out for a while, it could be vital for Liverpool. They’re going to need to make sure they have good back-up because it sounds like he could be out for a long time.”
Supporters on Twitter actually think that Redknapp had a decent point and have questioned why the Reds weren’t interested in the Argentine shot-stopper:
Not a bad shout from Redknapp. Despite the rivalry, he’s a solid back up option, probably one of the best 2nd choices in the league, apart from Henderson.

???if he cant dislodge de gea in the dire form he’s been in for the past 3 years, I’d rather have Adrian thanks Arry.

We should accept the truth that Aderian is the only choice for the time being, just becaus the owners wouldn’t pay a penny unless they have a return in advance. We’re heading to the hell for the next couple of games.

It would have been interesting to see whether United would have done business with Liverpool if they were interested in Romero. As things stand, though, with the transfer window closed, the next opportunity to sign the 33-year-old would be January.
Fans will be hoping that Alisson makes a swift recovery and results don’t suffer too much in the Brazilian’s absence.
