“Ones To Watch…” Ben Jacobs Claims Liverpool Could Challenge Arsenal And Chelsea For Midfield Dynamo

Liverpool are likely to revive their interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo at the end of the season, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Ecuadorian was the subject of bids from Arsenal and Chelsea in January but Jacobs believes that there is a good chance that Jurgen Klopp’s side will also enter the race for the midfielder in the summer:

“Liverpool might be ones to watch as well, as they’ve had a historical interest in Caicedo since from before he moved to Brighton. However, they never bid in January, contrary to what reports said.”

“The reason for that is two-fold. One, because they didn’t see value at the kind of figures being quoted and two, because the agent situation was complicated and those are not the type of deals that Liverpool normally do.”

“But if we get to the summer and the deal becomes simpler and falls within Liverpool’s valuation then they could go for Caicedo too.

As Jacobs mentions, Brighton were reluctant to sell Caicedo last month, and they subsequently put a sky-high asking price on the player to ward off interest.

The Seagulls may well soften their stance when the transfer window reopens, which could give the Reds a chance of succeeding with a lower bid than the £75m to £100m figures that were previously quoted.

Of course, with Liverpool unlikely to be in the Champions League, it could cause problems both in terms of finances and persuading the player, but it’s clear that Caicedo remains on the Merseyside club’s radar.
