Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren had a very good game against Manchester City yesterday, helping to keep the Citizens’ attack at bay for most of the 90 minutes.

The Croatian international has often been criticised by supporters but he has been an able understudy for Joel Matip since the Cameroon international was sidelined with a knee injury.

Fans on Twitter have been praising Lovren following the 3-1 win last night:

The 30-year-old could have left for Italy in the summer, but manager Jurgen Klopp managed to convince him to stay, and the decision has already paid off.

Lovren was by no means flawless against City but he made sure he kept his concentration levels high when blocking Raheem Sterling’s goal-bound shot in the second half.

There were no glaring mistakes from the Croatian and supporters will be feeling a lot more confident that the centre-back can provide adequate cover until Matip returns to the side.
