Portuguese Giants Plotting Deal To Sign Unsettled Liverpool Star

Benfica are weighing up a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to reports in Portugal.

The Primeira Liga side want either the Belgian, Real Sociedad’s Geronimo Rulli or Roma custodian Robin Olsen following the collapse of their move for Juventus keeper Mattia Perin.

Benfica were reportedly concerned with the player’s fitness and have decided to withdraw their interest.

Mignolet is seen as an experienced alternative, having made 305 appearances in the Premier League, as well as being capped 20 times by Belgium.

The 31-year-old is keen to leave Anfield with his agent having made it known that the shot-stopper wants more first-team football.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reluctant to let Mignolet go, having said recently that having the Belgian in the squad is like having two number ones.

Despite the German’s praise, though, the former Sunderland goalkeeper made just two appearances for the Reds last season and he is very much Alisson’s understudy.
