Pundit Claims He “Won’t Be Surprised” If 21 Year Old Midfielder (Who Chelsea Sold For 9M) Ends Up At Liverpool

Ex-Chelsea player Pat Nevin claims that Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour could well be signed by Liverpool in the future.

The Scottish international was sold by Chelsea for £9m before the transfer window closed but Nevin feels that the 21-year-old may be picked up by clubs like the Reds or Manchester City if he impresses during his time at the Seagulls:

“Billy Gilmour is at a crucial point in his career and the move to Brighton is a brilliant one. It’s the right move. Chelsea won’t regret selling him because that’s not the way they think as a club – but they may want to buy him back again. Four or five years down the line, I won’t be surprised if he’s playing in the Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea midfield – he’s that technically good.”

It’s an interesting take by Nevin. Gilmour’s technical ability has never been doubted but there are question marks over his effectiveness as a holding midfielder in the Premier League.

He struggled badly during his time on loan at Norwich City, and his lack of physicality (combined with the fact that he rarely provides assists or scores goals) have left many asking what sort of role he is suited for in the middle of the park.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is a fan of technically gifted players, going by his keenness to sign Thiago, as well as the recent addition of Arthur Melo, but whether Gilmour will develop into a player that could thrive at Anfield, we shall have to wait and see.
