Liverpool are among the four favourites to win the Champions League this season, according to former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

The BT Sport pundit was reacting after a second-string Reds side won 2-1 against AC Milan yesterday evening. He claims Jurgen Klopp‘s men, along with Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are the main contenders to be crowned champions of Europe:

“I don’t see past the three English teams, Bayern might stake a claim but they [Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool] are so powerful and have, who I think, are the three best managers. When you get to the latter stages, you need that experience in the dugout… They [Liverpool] have been one of the standout teams, that record is phenomenal. To shuffle the pack and still be convincing at the San Siro, it was going to be a tough assignment but they navigated it impeccably.”

Liverpool’s win at the San Siro last night was seriously impressive, especially considering the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson, Thiago and Diogo Jota were all rested.

The victory has made them the only English club to win all six of their group games in the Champions League and they will be extremely confident heading into the knockout phase of the competition.

Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Benfica, Juventus, Villarreal, Atalanta, Lille, Salzburg, Sevilla and Wolfsburg are all possible opponents in the last 16 at the moment.
