Romano Reveals Salah’s Contract Talks Are Being Delayed Because Of Two Other Liverpool Players

Mo Salah’s new contract is not currently a priority for Liverpool, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Egyptian international still has two and a half years remaining on his current deal at Anfield but, after revealing he’d consider moving to Real Madrid or Barcelona last month, there has been suggestions that the Reds need to tie down the player for the long term.

However, Romano says the Reds are currently focusing their efforts on securing new contracts for the likes of Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk, before considering their options with Salah:

“Liverpool are really calm about the situation of Salah, they are happy with him and they are concentrating more on other players like Fabinho, Van Dijk, extending their contracts and then we will see what’s going on with Salah.”

Considering all three players have deals that run until 2023, it is interesting to see that Liverpool are seemingly prioritising other players over Salah, despite his undoubted importance to the team.

Whether that prompted Salah to do the interview with the Spanish press in order to push contract talks further along, we shall see, but it seems the Reds are very relaxed about the whole situation.
