Ask the vast majority of Liverpool fans whether Jurgen Klopp should be criticised if he doesn’t win silverware this season, and they would say absolutely not.

The Reds boss has transformed the club since he arrived three and a half years ago, improving a team that had struggled to qualify regularly for the Champions League to one challenging for the title.

However, not all supporters believe the media will be as forgiving if Klopp fails to lift a trophy this campaign:

Liverpool have certainly spent a lot on players during Klopp’s tenure, but very few recruits have been failures. The likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk have all proven to be unqualified successes.

In addition, the £142m sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona has meant the club’s net spend under the German in the last three years is only matched by Tottenham and Chelsea, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all having spent comparably more.

Klopp’s team are flying in the league in any case, but if his side fall just short this campaign, he won’t be receiving criticism from the majority of supporters, even if the media decide to go after him.
