BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool could improve their midfield by signing a player like N’Golo Kante this summer.
Responding to claims that the Reds lack an engine in the middle of the park, Ferdinand said that Jurgen Klopp’s side should look to sign someone similar to the Chelsea midfielder:
“That’s where they need a Kante. A fit Kante and he’s given the license to get on and jump out of a defensive block, he’s the one player who could cause them problems.”
With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having a year left on their contracts, and vice-captain James Milner’s current deal expiring next month, it does seem like there will be some changes in the centre of the pitch.
A number of journalists have claimed that Liverpool are actively looking to recruit a midfielder, and Ferdinand seems to be bang on the money in terms of the style of player that the Reds’ recruitment team are scouting.
Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, and there is no doubt that he will fill a Kante-like role if he were to be signed by the Merseysiders in the coming months.
