“We’re Too Far Behind…” Robertson Claims Four Teams Have Leapfrogged Liverpool To Become City’s Main Rivals

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United have all managed to close the gap on the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been competing with Manchester City in a two-horse race for the title in recent years but Robertson says that has all changed this season:

“For the last three or four years, it’s always been us and Man City in one and two. Now other teams are getting involved, Arsenal look amazing this season, Tottenham look a different animal, Chelsea are getting going again, Man United.”

“Those teams are trying to close the gap in terms of quality, but we’re too far behind to focus on that just now. We just need to focus on putting in performances like we did tonight because if we do that I believe we’ll get chances against any team.”

As Robertson says himself, Liverpool need to focus on themselves and improving their form, rather than worrying about anyone else at the moment.  The Merseyside club are currently eighth in the table; fourteen points off the top.

The key is getting some momentum. Back-to-back wins against Rangers and City need to be followed up by another victory versus West Ham on Wednesday evening. Facing the Hammers, after expending so much energy at the weekend, will be tough, but they have to secure the three points to build confidence.

The Reds’ injury situation won’t help, though. Diogo Jota sustained a calf injury on Sunday, meaning there are now seven players on the treatment table.
