Liverpool have made contact about signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports in the Italian media.
The Serie A club are said to be willing to sell the 28-year-old when the transfer window reopens and could even consider cutting their €100m (£88m) asking price to offload the centre-back.
That has apparently led to the Reds getting involved in negotiations and it is believed the Merseyside club may sell Joel Matip in order to free up room for Koulibaly. Supporters on Twitter would love to see the Senegalese international move to Anfield but they are very sceptical:
Would be an an absolute dream signing

Doubtful.
But I’ll take it with both arms if it had any iota of truth.

Would be insane, but highly doubtful…Would only make sense if Trent shifts to MID, Joe shifts to RB and there’s a spot open at CB.

Absolute beast, but plays on the left like Virg.

Nonsense

Or….. How about signing someone we need? Joe Gomez is 22 and already a beast why would we spent so much for a 28 years old defender we don’t really need. We need an attacking midfielder, a back up LB and Werner

Liverpool are not likely to be spending significant sums in the transfer market this summer, especially on a player who will turn 29 in June.
The centre-back partnership of Koulibaly and Virgil van Dijk would indeed by a mouthwatering prospect but this is very much one of those rumours that has very little basis in fact.
Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to be looking at the defender, and both those clubs look likelier destinations than the Reds.
