Liverpool’s reserves did not particularly impress against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fourth-round tie yesterday. One of those who did not perform well on the night was Dejan Lovren.
The Croatian international was at fault for the Shrews’ second goal, allowing Jason Cummings to nutmeg him before the striker slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-2.
Supporters on Twitter vented their frustration at Lovren’s performance:
Lovren is a total liability and that will never change not even alongside VVD.

Perfect example to why you don’t jump into tackles, Van Dijk doesn’t do it and he gets mocked for it, plenty of examples to why you don’t just 100% commit like Lovren did there

It would be unfair to be too harsh on Lovren considering it was his first game since early December due to a thigh injury. In fact, Joel Matip and Fabinho looked equally rusty following their long injury layoffs.
Shrewsbury were fully deserving of the draw, and it looks as though they will have a chance of progressing to the next round too with manager Jurgen Klopp having confirmed that the Under 23s will play in the replay at the start of next month.
