“Left The Race…” Romano Confirms Major Transfer Blow As Liverpool Concede Defeat In Battle For Midfield Dynamo

Liverpool have called off their pursuit of RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds (along with Chelsea and Manchester United) were among the Premier League teams interested in signing the Austrian international on a free transfer. However, Romano has confirmed that the Reds now acknowledge that the player will join Bayern Munich:

“Liverpool, they have left the race for Konrad Laimer… nothing will happen with Liverpool or English clubs in general because there is an agreement ready with Bayern. Konrad Laimer – 99% waiting to sign the contracts – will be new Bayern player in 2023. There is a verbal agreement ready. Laimer wants Bayern. Nagelsmann wants Laimer.”

While Laimer has previously admitted that he is a “fan” of Liverpool, it has been assumed for quite some time that the midfielder would be moving to Bayern when his contract at Leipzig expires next summer.

There was some hope that a deal could be agreed to bring Laimer to Anfield in January but the Reds will need to consider other options if they want to strengthen their midfield.

The likes of Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat and Valencia’s Yunus Musah have been linked, with both players expected to be available next month, but the Merseyside club may now wait until the summer to get their primary targets.
