Chris Sutton Explains Why Liverpool Will Be A “Bigger Challenger” To City Than Arsenal For The Title

BBC Radio pundit Chris Sutton claims Liverpool’s attacking threat makes them a “bigger challenger” for Manchester City’s Premier League crown than Arsenal this season.

Fellow pundit Steve McManaman suggested that Jurgen Klopp‘s side have had the “hardest” start to the campaign in terms of fixtures, and they are still only 3 points off the top of the table. Sutton agreed that the Reds are legitimate contenders for the title:

“I went early on them. Just because of the midfield players they have brought and the rotation they can have in forward areas. You never leave Salah out, but the options they have in forward areas…”

“I’m still worried about them defensively, but I was at the Etihad at the weekend, and Man City were brilliant in the first half, but they are looking… I don’t want to say vulnerable, but I think Liverpool will be a bigger challenger to Man City than Arsenal will, I really do this season.”

Liverpool have an easier run of fixtures coming up

Klopp’s men have home games against Nottingham Forest and Brentford, as well as an away trip to Luton Town before the next international break.

If they can win all 3 fixtures and get to 29 points from 12 games played, it will put them in a great position heading into a huge game at the Etihad in late November.

Will the Reds be a “bigger challenger” than Arsenal?

Considering the Gunners are unbeaten in the league so far this season (along with Tottenham), Sutton is making a rather bold prediction that Liverpool will be City’s main challengers.

However, as the Reds are the only team to have stopped Pep Guardiola’s side from winning the title over the last six years, it’s not an unfair assumption to make.
